Stephen Cook is the owner of Bluefrog Consulting and has extensive, practical experience in social housing, leadership and governance. He has a passion for helping others be the best and firmly believes that doing the right thing is the foundation for success.
As a director, managing director and chief executive Stephen established himself as an accomplished communicator and inspirational leader as well as a highly effective non-executive board member. Between 2010 and 2012 he was a Welsh Government appointee to the board of Merthyr Valleys Homes and since 2016 has been a member of the board at Solon South West housing association in Bristol.
Stephen is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and has a post graduate Diploma in Management Studies.He started his housing career in 1984, shortly after graduating from Warwick University with an honours degree in German Studies. In September 2017 he retired as chief executive of Valleys to Coast housing association in Bridgend, South Wales after nine years in the post.
During his career Stephen worked for local authorities and housing associations in Bristol, Sussex, Wiltshire, the Cotswolds, Wales and the Midlands. Throughout this time he was always committed to personal and professional development serving on the CIH’s UK council for six years and chairing the CIH Cymru board between 2013-2016. He is currently chair of the CIH’s Professional Standards Committee and is a registered CIH mentor.
Married with an adult son (and now a grandfather) Stephen’s main interests are reading and listening to music. His interest in Bob Dylan borders on the obsessional.
Stephen also admits to being a season ticket holder at Bristol Rovers Football Club: a constant reminder that life is not all about enjoyment or success.
